In the spring of 2019, Shmody was approached by Virgil Abloh and his team to help produce stage visuals for his performance at Coachella. Abloh, a wildly successful fashion designer and visual artist, was looking for some experimental animations to complement his eclectic DJ set. Their team was drawn to some primitive AI sketches we had been experimenting with and wanted to lean into this. Generating impressionistic animations of faces and landscapes through a frame-by-frame, hand drawn process, we created a series of looping AI animations that were stitched together live to create an unforgettable audio-visual experience.
